DDP Shipping Upgrades to EU Countries + Many Other Countries
As of June 5th, 2026, I am testing a new shipping system for orders destined to the European Union as well as many international countries.
What’s changing

New orders are now processed under a delivery duty paid (DDP) model, meaning applicable duties and taxes are collected at checkout. The amount shown at checkout should represent the final amount payable, helping ensure a more predictable delivery experience with no unexpected fees upon arrival.
Orders are now shipped exclusively via tracked services (FedEx or DHL), replacing the previous Canada Post options, including Small Packet Air and Tracked Packet International. In addition to full end-to-end tracking, this change should result in faster customs clearance and reduce the risk of missed contact attempts from customs authorities regarding duty or tax payments.
You may notice that shipping costs are slightly higher than the previous Canada Post options. However, there are several benefits that come with the new system.
I know some customers may have had negative experiences with FedEx or DHL in the past, particularly around customs clearance, brokerage charges, or unexpected invoices, which sometimes can total anywhere from +20 to +100% of the cost of the item. However, the system I’m implementing is different from those experiences.
While shipments still travel through FedEx or DHL, duties and taxes are now paid upfront at checkout on my website rather than being assessed during the customs clearance process. This means you should no longer face additional charges upon delivery or receive a separate invoice after shipment for duties, taxes, or related fees.
Why I’m making this change
Shipping outside of Canada and US has been a consistent challenge since the shop launched in 2021. Until last month, Shopify did not support DDP shipments to any countries (except US since the tariffs) for a Canadian shop like mine, which made it difficult to provide a fully predictable checkout experience.
Previously, shipments relied on postal services that, while functional, often involved slower customs processing and could still result in additional taxes, duties, and handling/service fees (eg. €7–€15 in the EU) before delivery, as well as occasional delays due to customs or the postal service not being able to reach the buyer for payment of extra fees.
With Shopify now enabling DDP functionality, I am taking the opportunity to trial a more reliable and transparent system.
How Do You Tell If Your Shipment is DDP?
There are a few clues on the website that will indicate that your shipment is DDP. When browsing the products in the version of my website that matches your country, there will be a line under the product title that indicates that "Taxes Included"

At the checkout screen, there will be a line under the Total that indicates "Including x in taxes", and there may be a line for "Duties" if applicable.

Overall goal
The goal of this update is to simplify delivery, reduce unexpected costs, and improve reliability for customers.
At launch, this applies to shipments to the EU, as well as many other countries:

Countries Still Under the DDU System (Non-DDP):
I'm also still shipping to the following countries, but they are under the original DDU system with the postal system. This may be due to a number of reasons, such as the DDP shipping rates are unreasonably expensive, and/or the postal system is quite reliable. Taxes and duties are not included at checkout for these countries, and you may be charged by your government before or after delivery:

For the US, shipping has been under the DDP system ever since the 2025 tariffs, but is shipped and handled by Canada Post + USPS, rather than FedEx or DHL.
